West Papua, positioned 2,490 km north of Meanjin (Brisbane), has been devastated by unethical harvesting of wood and other precious materials, the lives of millions of people and other living flora and fauna have been uprooted and decimated. The deals to the forests and homes are unethical and unsupported, most of these "deals" made to the land are done without the knowledge or consent of the Village people. Either under false promises made to them, or being overlooked entirely then being met with military - pushing them out of their homes, the dense rainforests once loved, are levelled and sold, palm and other tree farms are erected in their place. Wild lands filled with culture and greenery, stripped and sanctioned off, ecosystems and traditions eradicated with Australian money and support behind it.
Australia's Contribution
Since the Indonesian government's corrupt and shameful takeover in 1962, which saw that the people of West Papua lose their newly acquired independence and right to self determination, Australia has supported this clearance and other massacres. Investing in deforestation, mining and drilling operations as well as supplying artillery and military training to Indonesian troops, who patrol and enforce strict regime in West Papua. Mass murder, rape, extortion and psychological warfare is used by Indonesian troops on West Papuans to oppress and control their spirt. Australian money is funding this, Our money is funding genocide.
Cut the Connection
Australian government has ignored the reports of human rights violations committed against the West Papuan people and is engaging in trade of weapons and wood, leading to the destruction of priceless environments, histories and people.
We cannot ignore this.
